Privacy policy
Last updated 8 October 2026. Applies to the LocatorZero web app at locatorzero.pages.dev, the LocatorZero desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and the LocatorZero Tabs browser extension.
In short: LocatorZero sends nothing from your device and keeps no copy of what it finds. You can check this yourself: in the app, press Verify in the footer to watch the checks run live.
What the app reads, and only after you agree
- File and folder names, sizes and dates, in the places you allow: your computer, connected drives and cloud folders (desktop app), or a folder you choose (web app). The desktop app asks before it first searches your computer, and before it looks in any drive or folder you pick.
- Browser history (desktop app): read-only, to find pages you visited. Your browsers' files are not changed. Private windows keep no history, so they are never found.
- Names of running apps (desktop app), the way a task manager shows them.
- Open tabs, only if you install the LocatorZero Tabs extension. It passes tab addresses and titles to LocatorZero on the same computer. Tabs in private windows are never shared.
- The inside of a file, only when you press Preview on it: at most its first 64 KB, or one image up to 10 MB.
What leaves your device
Nothing. The app's security policy blocks every network request, its own included, and the desktop app contains no networking code. It has no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no update checks.
What is stored, in full
- Your settings, in your browser's storage on your device: light or dark theme, whether you have seen the welcome tour or turned it off, and, if you ticked "Don't ask again", that you allowed searching your computer.
- Desktop app only: a file holding the date you first opened the app (for the 90-day trial) and your licence key, if you entered one.
- Desktop app only, if you press "Set up open tabs": one small file per browser that tells it how to start LocatorZero's tab helper.
- Web app only: an offline copy of the app's own files, so it works without internet.
Your searches, results and previews are kept in memory only, and cleared when you close the app, press Wipe, or after 5 minutes without use. LocatorZero never keeps copies of your files, so a file you permanently delete does not appear in it again.
This website
The website is hosted by Cloudflare Pages. Loading a page, or downloading an installer, is an ordinary request that Cloudflare handles under its own privacy policy; like any web host, it sees your IP address. The pages set no cookies, contain no trackers, and send nothing after they load.
Buying a licence
When the store opens, purchases will go through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the seller (merchant of record). It collects your payment details, name, email address and country to process the payment, issue your invoice and handle tax, under its own privacy policy, and keeps the records the law requires. LocatorZero never receives your card details. We can see orders in the store's dashboard so we can help with refunds and support; we do not copy them elsewhere, add you to mailing lists, or link them to your use of the app, which we cannot see. Your licence key contains only the plan, the order reference and its dates.
Children
LocatorZero is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone through the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes too. The app's behaviour can always be checked with Verify, and its source code is available to read.

Contact details will be published here before the store opens.
